The Wonderful Body

Today's Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:14-18

"God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose."

The human body is truly an amazing thing. A complex structure of bone and tissue, its nerves, muscles, and organs work together to form a living, breathing, thinking being.

Take the heart, for example. A piece of muscle about the size of a fist, it beats about 100,000 times a day, pumping nearly 2,000 gallons of blood through roughly 60,000 miles of blood vessels. And while the heart gives life to our bodies, the heat all that pumping does would be fatal if it wasn't specially protected.

Only a divine Creator could design and produce the wonder that is the human body.

Today's passage reminds us that the very same Creator who created us in his image is at work designing and building the Church, the body of Christ.

Last week, we explored briefly the idea that as a believer, you are the handiwork of God, giving you value to him and to others. Much the same is true of the Church.

As a part of Heights Baptist Church, or another church you're a part of, God placed you where you are. And, he did so because that's where he wants you.

The individual members of the Church are designed to work together in much the same way the various parts of the body work together to form a living human being. When we do work together according to God's design, we Connect in Community.

When the members of the body are connected in community, worshiping together, serving together, and growing together, that is when Jesus is building his church as he said he would do in Matthew 16:18.

Is there anything better than being a part of what Jesus himself is building?

Think about it …

How has God uniquely prepared you to be a member of the Church, his body?
