Turn It Around

Today's Scripture: Isaiah 55:6-11

"Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near … so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

Men don't like to ask for directions. We just don't. We guys can't admit that we may be lost. We may take a scenic route to get where we're going, but we're never lost. We could save ourselves (and our wives) a lot of time and aggravation if we would just stop and ask for directions. If we would simply reset our navigation.

In today's passage, Isaiah provides for us a model of one who resets his navigation of life to the Lord.

It begins with turning to the right source … seek the Lord. This should ever be at the forefront of our thinking. Instead of wandering around and taking a scenic route, call upon the Lord for guidance and direction.

But there's something else to consider. When you turn to something, there is also a turning from something. Isaiah urges all to turn from wandering, to turn from unrighteousness, and return to the Lord.

Don't be afraid to turn to him due to guilt or fear. His word assures you that he will answer with compassion and pardon. And it's not just a little pardon. It's an abundance of pardon from the one who created all things. As big as God is, that's how big his pardon is.

Isaiah also declares the transcendence of God. He is the Creator of all things. That especially includes man, who he created in his image. As Creator, he is above all of creation.

Since he is the Creator and we the creation, we can't fully understand God. Our minds just can't go that far. But, that shouldn't stop you from seeking him. In fact, he wants you to seek him. That's why Isaiah said, "Seek the Lord … call upon him."

And then comes the heart of the matter for us today. The word of God will accomplish his desire, his purpose. Not mine. Not yours. His.

Reset. Seek the Lord and turn to him so that he might speak life into your life. Open your heart to him so his word can be at work in you to show you the way of accomplishing his purpose in your life.

Think about it …

Is there anything holding you back in your relationship with God such that you are not seeing his purpose in your life being fully carried out?
